On 17th October 2024, the students, Scouts & Guides of Kainat International School, Kainat Nagar, Kako, Jehanabad, Bihar, observed the “International Day for the Eradication of Poverty”. The event was marked by a heartwarming show of solidarity as students donated their canteen money and the school staff contributed one day’s salary to support the flood victims in Bihar.
The occasion was filled with performances aimed at raising awareness about poverty. Kunj Kashyap and Hameed Ahmad performed a powerful play, while Pari Kumari, Prem Sagar Bharti, and Umang Sagar Bharti captivated the audience with a stirring Qawwali performance.
The school’s chairman, Shakil Ahmed Kakvi, delivered a thought-provoking speech, stressing the importance of raising awareness about the millions of people living in poverty. He pointed out the many challenges they face, such as lack of housing, access to justice, and nutritious food. Mr. Kakvi also reminded everyone that in 1992, the United Nations officially designated 17th October as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, highlighting the importance of global efforts to address the issue.
He encouraged the community to take sustainable steps to fight poverty, particularly through education. His message, “Aadhi roti khayenge, bachche ko padhayenge” (We will eat less, but ensure our children are educated), underscored the role of education in overcoming poverty.
The event concluded with the Scouts & Guides song, followed by the National Anthem, leaving everyone with a sense of unity and a renewed commitment to contributing to the global fight against poverty.
